Red's CD Music Review
Hi, I'm Red...I Review CD's Ringo Starr - Vertical Man

Who out there can deny their occasional craving for the '70's type schmaltzy, bouncy, catchy, pop song about love and relationships? The latest effort from none other than Ringo Starr, "Vertical Man" is chock full of them. Considering George and Paul are searching other musical styles, Ringo stays true to form with the happy Beatles inflection in his compositions, creating his best album in 20 years.

The disc is loaded with gems, the snappy "Mindfield" comes replete with an explosive conclusion, while the title track has a quite unexpected, abrupt end. Another highlight is the extremely bouncy and catchy "Puppet." Remakes of the Beatles' "Love Me Do" and Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" (nothing could compare to the original version), as well as an unnecessary ode to his wife Barbara, "I'm Yours" keep this CD from being a "must have."

Overall, the song selections are very catchy with the drumming and vocals being typical Ringo fare. Definitely worthy for any Ringo or Beatles fans or someone missing schmaltzy pop.
