You Can't Stop The Bum Rush
You might ask, now that the merger of hard rock and rap have successfully come to the forefront of our music culture,
what's next? Well, the three man, one woman outfit simply named "Len" introduces us to a lighter, party
pop, rap sound complete with sensational, funky dance grooves on their debut effort, "You Can't Stop The Bum
Rush."
The selections contain many vital instruments including the beatbox, slide guitars, horns, keyboards,
and strings melded together in harmony.
The leadoff track (and current radio smash) "Steal My Sunshine" is an instant classic
pop tune using the slightly recognizable riffs of "More, More, More" by the Andrea True Connection from
1976. Other highlights include "Cryptik Souls Crew," named aptly after the guest artists on the song,
the beat heavy "Hot Rod Monster Jam" and the rock leaning "Feelin' Alright."
There are guest appearances abound by rap contemporaries Kurtis Blow and Biz Markie as well as
heavy metal guitarist C.C. DeVille on this creative gem. I can't help to make the analogy that "Len"
is attempting to do with dance-pop-rap what the "Tom Tom Club" of the early '80's did successfully with
that time period's alternative sound.
Whatever becomes of "D-Rock," "DJ Moves," "Burger Pimp," and "Shar"
(the four members of "Len"), this unique, catch you off guard work may become the beginning of a new
movement. 3 ROCKS.
