How to Choose a Stockbroker - A Guide for Beginning Investors

What type of broker are you looking for? There are two types; full service and discount brokers. Which one should you use? In the old days a person would locate a stock broker through a friend. The friend would claim this broker was a genius. Most cases in the long run, the friend would lose money and still try to claim he was doing a good job. So much for attitudes.

1. If you are just starting out to invest in the market and you DO NOT know very much about where to put your hard earned cash, then a full service broker is the best way to go. You'll end up paying some fees in exchange for their expertise.

2. If you are going to do all of the studying and analyzing of the companies yourself, and can sleep at night, then a discount broker is the only choice.

3. See our resources below for more information on choosing a stock broker.
